The cast and creator reveal details about what’s to come on the exciting series.
Last year, Nikita was an unknown series at Comic-Con that had a lot to prove to fans of previous incarnations of the character. But this time out, the series returned on the heels of an excellent first season, having gained an appreciative fanbase in the interim, who greeted cast members Maggie Q (“Nikita”), Lyndsy Fonseca(“Alex”), Shane West (“Michael”) and executive producer Craig Silverstein with a ton of enthusiastic applause.
Silverstein promised, “Alex and Nikita fight early on, which we really haven’t seen before.” The actresses laughed, recalling filming the fight scene, which Fonseca said involved Maggie Q picking her up and throwing her into a car.
The panel began with a Season 1 sizzle reel, followed by quick glimpse of the first episode of Season 2 – which was just shot in the past few days. We hear Michael warning Nikita about Division finding them and see Nikita looking stylish as always, entering a fancy club and taking off a long coat. We see that Nikita and Michael are still hunting for Black Boxes and a scene in which Nikita beats down a bad guy, when suddenly the wall next to them explodes. The clip reel ended with Alex on the phone saying, “This is Alex. I picked up her trail. I’m coming in.”
As for what other specifics were revealed during the panel…
The power dynamic at Division is very different now. Said Silverstein, “Amanda is running Division and Percy has been banished to probably the coolest set we’ve built yet.” While he wouldn’t get specific on what that set was, he did add, “Percy has taken a fall and he’s plotting his revenge.”
A new character, Shawn, is introduced this season, who has been sent by Oversight to watch over Amanda. Amanda is trying to “Clean up Percy’s mess,” or at least that’s what she claims, noted Silverstein. Shawn has been described in the press as a potential love interest for Alex, though Fonseca said that was funny to her, given that Amanda hates him during the scenes they’re currently shooting. Fonseca said that Alex “has a relationship with Division, but she does not work for them. She needs them to get what she wants. ” Silverstein elaborated that “She’s working with them on a quid pro quo basis. It could go wrong at any time.”
While Michael and Nikita are together, it won’t be smooth sailing. West said, the two of them are “Very different, but in love. They’re trying to work out those problems while in extraordinary circumstances.”
More of Nikita’s past will be revealed via flashbacks, including, as Maggie Q pondered, “Why is Nikita the best? Where does it come from?” She and Silverstein discussed the question of Nikita’s parents – and Fonseca said she hopes to learn about Alex’s mother as well.
“Birkhoff is no longer in Division, but you’ll find out what happened to him in the first episode,” said Silverstein. The cast all seemed very excited by what’s to come with Birkhoff in Season 2, though they all kept silent on what that involved.
Owen (Devon Sawa) will return in the second episode of Season 2, and Ryan will return this season as well. Silverstein said Owen is “trying to get healthy” and “is being funded by a mysterious source.”
Silverstein said that the “love story” (his term) between Nikita and Alex remains crucial, noting, “The journey they go on this season is super rocky,” but said that as in Season 1, “It ends in a totally different place than it begins.”
